Ivy Bound ACT 8 Week Class
The ACT is now the most sought-after test by students seeking admission to competitive colleges. Ivy Bound’s ACT 8 week class helps propel students to a better score in all five sections: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Essay. Students use workbooks from home to learn with an online teacher. We cover two sections each day and have a break every 45 to 65 minutes.
Ivy Bound’s ACT teachers teach with clarity, enthusiasm, empathy, and high test knowledge. We are proud of our online longevity – our tutors have conducted online test prep since 2007.
Classes are taught by instructors who use fun, visual presentations that encourage students to participate. All tutors are top 1 % scorers from prestigious colleges, including: Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Emory, Georgetown, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Swarthmore, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UChicago, UPenn, UVirginia, Williams, and Yale.
As a firm, Ivy Bound is known for its students’ success. Ivy Bound’s ACT students report on average 13.6 section-point improvements. Dedicated students have the ability to aim for 20 to 28 section-point improvements (5 to 7 composite points).
Ivy Bound’s class includes practice materials from both the ACT and Ivy Bound. Students are allowed to join Ivy Bound for proctored practice tests during the run of classes and up until shortly before your actual ACT date. Students may also join Ivy Bound’s Zoom reviews. These are group sessions that have a tutor address individual questions from Home Study or Practice Tests.
INCLUDES: All instruction, electronic materials and proctored practice tests.
Focus is on ACT Math, Science, Reading and English Skills**. There will be one “embedded” Half-Practice Test, and students are strongly encouraged to take full tests from the materials we send. These Practice Tests are offered on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons throughout the summer and are included in the class price. A schedule of offered Practice Test dates will be provided.
We hold Zoom reviews at 8:15pm eastern every Tuesday for English and Reading, and every Thursday for Math and Science.

Ivy Bound ACT Materials, Licensing, and Enlistment
The Materials, Licensing, and Enlistment fee “MLE” for ACT is highly recommended. Without it, tutors can’t give the full arsenal of strategies, and students can’t take advantage of the extra help that typically leads to the highest score increases. The MLE covers:
A) The Ivy Bound Strategies and Practice Problems: These are in physical binders, one for Math and Science, one for English, Reading, and Essay, in downloadable PDFs. If printing at home, these are about 550 pages. Parents choosing to print the materials at home save $70 off the MLE.
The Official ACT Prep Guide: This is the book used for some Study questions and some of the practice tests. Students are assigned problems in this book between sessions.
Parents choosing to order this book can do so at Amazon.
If ordering, or if the student already own this book, then the MLE is reduced $30.
C) Help Line, a.k.a. “Zoom Reviews”: These are online group sessions that meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 9:05pm Eastern. Students join to have a tutor help them with difficult home study questions or with concepts from lessons they want to reinforce.
D) Practice Tests: Ivy Bound offers simulated ACTs two or three times each month. Students Join via Zoom.us and use a simulated ACT to have a timed session. Students see a countdown clock on their computer, and Ivy Bound proctors help them with scoring thereafter. They leave the session with a simulated score.
E) Essay Writing for the ACT: On two evenings, students can join at 9:15pm eastern for 50 minute group sessions on Zoom to learn skills for completing the ACT essay. We give the “Do’s and “Don’ts” so students can comfortably write an essay impromptu in 40 minutes that impresses the ACT’s readers.
F) Practice Test Reviews: On Sunday nights following each Practice Test, students are invited to attend a group review session on Zoom. An Ivy Bound instructor goes over medium-level and difficult problems that students taking that test encountered earlier. We reinforce strategies, and define difficult words.
G) Guarantee: Students who work diligently have a 12 section- point guarantee, or even a 16 section-point guarantee. Students not reaching that level after two or three Post-Ivy Bound ACTs see half the tutor fees returned. Ivy Bound pays 50% to the parents of any diligent student who works 35 hours or more with a tutor and attends three or more Zoom Reviews (see above) each month. Details are in a Guarantee Agreement that student and parent sign. For students starting with high scores, the guarantee is 8 section-points; for students starting with VERY high scores, the guarantee is 5 section-points.
Guarantees are only available to students using the Ivy Bound Materials and who have a prior starting score on an ACT, PSAT, or ACT. For students who lack an official starting score, Ivy Bound tutors use best efforts; all course content, all time-management strategies, and all test-taking skills are given in a full run of tutoring. Success is best guaranteed by diligent work with a talented tutor. More hours with the tutor and on the Zoom conferences generally result in higher score increases, but there is no direct-line correlation.
*Electronic materials will be included with the course price. In addition, students will be required to purchase The Official ACT Prep Guide 2020-2021 prior to the start of the first class and use a headset with a microphone. Ivy Bound highly recommends that students print out the materials for this class. Printed versions are available to all North American clients for an additional $100 fee.
**Classes can be segmented for $200 less: Math & Science or English & Reading.
