Description
Ivy Bound ACT Add-On
Ivy Bound encourages students who are eyeing competitive colleges to take the ACT in addition to the SAT. For those who have studied well for the SAT, an “ACT Add-On” is extremely beneficial. With a private tutor, or in a class, we cover the science and math that is not covered on the SAT, along with the format differences for all five sections.
In the class format, Ivy Bound’s ACT Add-On is offered for a 9 to 10.5 hour period, typically spanning three dates. During the school year, these meet once a week. During the summer, these meet on consecutive days during a single week or over a long weekend.
Students may engage a tutor one-on-one for nine hours or more. With private tutoring the student’s agenda is paramount, and the tutors are able to change their style to suit the student’s schedule and learning needs.
ACT Add-On Classes
Our classes are advantageous for three types of students:
1) those who want a low price
2) those who have strong ACT English, reading and math skills, but need a boost in science and the “hard ACT math”.
3) those who completed SAT study and just need a n addition to cover the tested ACT topics that are not tested on the SAT.
The ACT Add-On Class uses handouts that are emailed and should be printed out at home. Students should buy The Official ACT Prep Guide for their use in class and beyond.
Our online classes are conducted formally with strict starting times and break times. If a student is shy when asking questions in the classroom – fear no more! The online classroom allows questions to be asked anonymously, so there is no pressure if a student is having a difficult time learning a specific topic. In the online classroom setting, all students have the ability to be active and learn effectively.
Home Study is assigned for all students and usually adds up to 2 hours between sessions. All students are encouraged to take practice tests following these classes. Ivy Bound allows enrolled students to join it proctored ACT practice tests on weekends at no charge.
ACT Materials, Licensing, and Enlistment.
In General
The ACT covers a large amount of material that students learn in high school. However, it also includes questions, topics and skills not demanded by a high school curriculum. Because the ACT is still a highly published standard, it is also highly coachable. Students that study for the ACT can see an improvement on their scores. The only question is “how much?”
Ivy Bound also trains students to prepare for the big test day. Ivy Bound allows its ACT Fast! students to join for a practice test on a subsequent day. Students can purchase a practice test package if they want to practice multiple times before their real test date.
Our ACT tutors are excellent test takers themselves, who know the ACT test inside and out. An ACT tutor is able to help you learn both the material that is on the test and the proper strategies for learning how to answer correctly. Tutoring sessions are generally split between learning how to read the ACT test and reviewing the material that students have to learn to be competent on the test.
The best part of working with a tutor is the individual attention to your progress. In full length courses, Ivy Bound tutors masterfully work with students; they learn their strengths and weaknesses and use that information to make relevant tutoring sessions. ACT tutors at Ivy Bound focus on several strategies to help students, including time management, investigation, and sorting. When working with an Ivy Bound tutor in full-length courses, we expect our students to become confident and have the skills to get the score they desire.
