Get through your reading faster, with equal or better comprehension! We help students develop good reading habits so they can receive and process more information than before. We make use of a breakthrough curriculum that uses age-appropriate novels and non-fiction. Students should expect to double their reading speed and understand more as a realistic result.
Parents who form groups set the agenda, which includes the meeting times, venue, goals and the books. Our classes typically run
- 7 hours for reading only,
- 11 hours if including study skills,
- 15 hours in an extended class, and
- 20 to 25 hours in an “Accomplishment” class.
Students in an extended class will read a full book in their final session.
Students in an “Accomplishment” class will read three to five books, covering a good chunk of their summer reading while with us.
Our suggested class schedule includes four consecutive days with a hour and forty-five minute of class time on each day.
Students adding study skills, take a 15 minute break and then reconvene for a final 60 minutes. This is ideal for a summer week or vacation week.
During the school year, these four sessions can be done one afternoon a week. If interested, it can include weekends. By the end of a month, students will be more proficient readers.
Ivy Bound’s Reading teachers are hired for their clarity, enthusiasm, empathy, and knowledge. Most are also SAT or ACT teachers and help students apply their reading skills to one or both of these tests.
The General Agenda
Speedy Reading plus study skills is:
- Lesson 1 Intro to Speed Reading / Memorization
- Lesson 2 Organization / Note Taking
- Lesson 3 Doubling Your Reading Speed
- Lesson 4 Note-Taking for Laptops
- Lesson 5 Pushing Your Speed
- Lesson 6 Exam Preparation
- Lesson 7 Articles and Internet Reading
- Lesson 8 Writing Papers
- Lesson 9 Tripling ? your Reading Speed

- Lesson 11 Applying Your Reading In School
A class for students who only want reading help covers the odd numbered lessons above. Those who want the full “Speedy Reading” and study skills cover all lessons mentioned above.
Online classes run with as few as four students, and there are multiple times available. Our default “level” is middle school. Our books include:
- The Hobbit
- Don’t Know Much About Geography.
We encourage students in an extended class to supplement with their book of choice, and we encourage students in an “Accomplishment” class to bring in three books from a summer or upcoming school year reading list.

Ivy Bound Classes
Do you work better with having a class agenda? Would you prefer a set time every week for an additional class? Then try out an Ivy Bound class! Our classes meet on different schedules, but choosing one that works for you is very simple. Classes meet with a teacher and complete a full agenda to help you with whatever subject you need.
Our classes are advantageous for three types of students:
1) those who want a lower price for great academic results
2) one who is more comfortable with dynamic group work
3) those who like a “classroom” setting.
Our online classes are conducted formally with strict starting times and break times. The structure keeps our staff and students consistent. Is your student shy when asking questions in the classroom? Fear no more! The online classroom experience allows for questions to be asked anonymously, so there is no pressure if a student is having a difficult time learning a specific topic. In the online classroom setting, all students have the ability to be active and learn effectively.
