Description
Ivy Bound Speedy SAT Skills
Ivy Bound can help your student prep for the SAT quickly! A short class, or a private SAT tutor, can assist students with either learning new material or reviewing material they are familiar with. Additionally, an SAT tutor helps students work on their overall study skills. Students leave Ivy Bound not only with higher SAT abilities, but the skills to combat future tests.
Ivy Bound’s Speedy SAT is held as a five-hour class on weekends. It is offered in two sessions on Friday and Saturdays evenings OR in a single 5.5 hour Sunday session with a long break and two or three short breaks.
Students who wish to have full sessions with a tutor devoted exclusively to them may engage a tutor one-on one for six hours or more. With private tutoring the student’s agenda is paramount, and the tutors flex to the student’s schedule and learning needs.
Speedy SAT Classes
Our classes are advantageous for three types of students:
1) those who want a low price
2) those who want just an introduction to the topics and don’t need an in-depth study currently
3) those who can’t commit to a long, thorough class, but can do 5 hours on one weekend.
The Speedy SAT Class does NOT include materials. Students should buy The Official SAT Prep Guide for their use in class and beyond. Ivy Bound supplements students with strategy sheets before the session. These should be printed out by each participant at home and brought to the class.
Our online classes are conducted formally with strict starting times and break times. If a student is shy when asking questions in the classroom – fear no more! The online classroom allows questions to be asked anonymously, so there is no pressure if a student is having a difficult time learning a specific topic. In the online classroom setting, all students have the ability to be active and learn effectively.
SAT Materials, Licensing, and Enlistment.
The bulk of the ML&E covers intellectual property – Ivy Bound does not sell its SAT materials to anyone but its clients. The problem sets and the strategies therein are unique and highly helpful for students.
The other components are:
Practice Tests – these are held 2 or more weekend times each month.
Practice Test reviews – Online conferences each Sunday night following a Practice Test.
Zoom Reviews – 50 minute sessions 2x a week with a tutor who explains home study questions.
This product, ML&E, is strongly encouraged. Ivy Bound’s tutors are versed in the strategies herein and in many of the practice problems. It plays to the tutors’ strengths. Also, the Zoom reviews are a component of the Guarantee Agreement.
In General
The SAT covers a large amount of material that students learn in high school. However, it also includes questions, topics and skills not demanded by a high school curriculum. Because the SAT is still a highly published standard, it is also highly coachable. Students that study for the SAT can see an improvement on their scores. The only question is “how much?”
Ivy Bound also trains students to prepare for the big test day. Ivy Bound allows its drop-in students to join for a practice test on a subsequent day. Students can purchase a practice test package if they want to practice multiple times before their real test date.
Our SAT tutors are excellent test takers themselves, who know the SAT test inside and out. An SAT tutor is able to help you learn both the material that is on the test and the proper strategies for learning how to answer correctly. Tutoring sessions are generally split between learning how to read the SAT test and reviewing the material that students have to learn to be competent on the test.
The best part of working with a tutor is the individual attention to your progress. In full length courses, Ivy Bound tutors masterfully work with students; they learn their strengths and weaknesses and use that information to make relevant tutoring sessions. SAT tutors at Ivy Bound focus on several strategies to help students, including time management, investigation, and sorting. When working with an Ivy Bound tutor in full-length courses, we expect our students to become confident and have the skills to get the score they desire.
