Practice Tests

When studying for the SAT, it is important to perform well on practice tests. Although our tutors have a great deal of success in assisting students in raising their scores, our services are not always required for trial examinations. We go over the College Board-licensed SAT Reasoning Test booklets that we have in order to demonstrate to students how they can independently prepare for the day of the exam.

Sections On the SAT

Reading, Grammar, and Math are the three categories that have different numbers of questions in each of our booklets (with and without a calculator). These sections have maintained their original format throughout the past three years. There is also an experimental section that is not factored into your overall score. Those of you who opt to write the essay may be excused from answering the questions in this section. Our booklets also have essay prompts.

Scoring Scale

Students can self-evaluate their performance by referring to the correct answers provided in the back of the booklet. The scoring tables display, on a scale ranging from 200 to 800, how many correct answers correspond to a given score in the areas of math and verbal.

There is no need to send away results to a computer scoring system; you can have your own score calculated within ten minutes of completing the practice test! Simply ensure that you have the correct count and then apply that count to the scale; we will explain the formula that is involved.

Conversion Tables

In addition, you don't have to guess how many more questions you need to answer correctly to reach a particular score because that information is provided to you. The tables show how many raw score points are required to climb the scale those 90 points. For example, if you have a score of 610 on the math section but want to improve it to 700, the tables show how many raw score points are required. Your  tutor might be needed to help you the first time through with this "upside measurement"; on subsequent Practice Tests, you can do it on your own.
